E.H. Shepard: The Man Who Drew Pooh
Arthur R. Chandler

Foreword by HRH The Duke of Kent

A stunningly illustrated biography of one of Britain's greatest illustrators

Alhough his artistic reputation rests upon the remarkable drawings he did for A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh stories and Grahame's Wind in the Willows, E.H. Shepard (1879-1976) was a diverse and talented artist in his own right. After studying at the Royal Academy, Shepard fought in, and sketched two world wars; became an important contributor to the satirical magazine Punch; wrote many books, and, by the time of his death, was recognised as the century's foremost illustrator of children's books.

This extraordinary book, with over 150 illustrations in colour and black and white - many previously unseen - is written and compiled by the guardian of Shepard's archive at the University of Surrey, and tells the story of an astonishing talent, through his own drawings, manuscripts, diaries and memorabilia.
