Monty Python: The Case Against
Robert Hewison

What were the motives and the methods of those who have sought to censor and ban Python?

From the launch of their first television series Monty Python's Flying Circus on BBC TV in 1969, to the making and screening of The Life of Brian; Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terrry Gilliam Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin were accused of lapses of taste which attracted complaints from outraged viewers. How do the pressures of censorship operate in the entertainment business generally?

Robert Hewison's totally factual and often ironic account of the Python encounters with censorship is illustrated both with words and pictures from their creations and with words and pictures from real life. The similarities between the two are often hilarious. This book has been written with the co-operation of the Pythons but not censored by them.
