About the authors:

W. C. Sellar was born in Sutherland and educated at Fettes College, near Edinburgh. R. J. Yeatman was born in Oporto, where his father was a wine merchant. They met at Oriel College, Oxford after the First World War and began publishing in Punch. Along with 1066 And All That, which was described by Frank Muir as 'one of the permanent treasures of Eng. Lit. as Entertainment', their other books are And Now All This, Horse Nonsense (mainly by Yeatman - Sellar disliked horses) and Garden Rubbish (mainly by Sellar - Yeatman loathed gardening).
